Megyn Kelly hailed as she accuses NBC of playing 'moral arbiter' and condemning Trump but spiking Harvey Weinstein story
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a scathing critique, former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly lambasted NBC News for their "sanctimonious" coverage of the Donald Trump hush money trial, citing the network's own troubled history with sexual assault allegations.
Kelly's comments came after MSNBC host Rachel Maddow condemned the practice of "checkbook journalism" during the 2016 presidential election, referring to the alleged suppression of unflattering stories about Trump by the National Enquirer, according to Mediaite.

"The sanctimony espoused on that set last night about 'checkbook journalism' and how these media outlets would bury stories in exchange for, you know, some sort of an exclusive or for nefarious purposes that are really not above board is really rich coming from NBC News, which has been most infamous for having the Harvey Weinstein story," Kelly remarked on her Sirius XM show.
She pointed to NBC's notorious handling of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, accusing the network of spiking the story to protect disgraced former anchor Matt Lauer, who faced his own sexual misconduct allegations.
"They spiked it and let Ronan Farrow walk out the door with what would be a Pulitzer Prize winning story on Harvey because, according to Ronan Farrow, they didn’t want Harvey to unleash on Matt Lauer, who they had reason to believe was hurting women inside of the NBC building," Kelly explained.

Kelly, who left NBC in 2018 after her own controversial comments, did not hold back in her criticism.
"That was the deal they struck, which does not give her the moral high ground to come out there and condemn Trump, saying, 'Could you please bury the porn star's allegation against me?' In no way, shape or form, alleged to be non-consensual," she said, referring to the hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
"That's the underlying sickness behind every discussion NBC's having about this. And only those of us with a memory that's longer than two minutes understand how wrong it is," Kelly added, accusing NBC of hypocrisy in light of their past scandals.
In November 2017, Lauer was dismissed following allegations of sexual misconduct. Journalist Ronan Farrow later released a book titled 'Catch and Kill' in 2019, detailing the accusations, which Lauer refutes, People reports.

Kelly's comments struck a chord with many on the internet, who were quick to back her and slam NBC News for its perceived hypocrisy. One user on YouTube exclaimed, "The hypocrisy is staggering."
Another user expressed frustration, stating, "Of course it’s different with Trump. Can they go one minute without mentioning Trump. Obsession is putting it lightly. I’ve never seen so much hypocrisy than these clowns have. It’s baffling disgusting and pure arrogance."
A third user commented, "MSNBC is a clown show," while another criticized Maddow's approach, remarking, "It's challenging, uncomfortable to watch and listen to Rachel Maddow. For a person who expects 'tolerance,' not much there within daily bombardment of hate and dividing the people."
A fifth user declared, "Maddow's rhetoric has hurt America." Echoing similar sentiments, a sixth user remarked, "The Democrat mouthpiece is really useless oxygen usage."
