BACK HERE AT HOME NOW, TODAY, THE SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR WAS ANNOUNCED AND THE WINNER IS FROM THE UPSTATE. BRADEN WILSON WORKS IN ANDERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE. SHE TEACHES EIGHTH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES AT PALMETTO MIDDLE SCHOOL. CONGRATULATIONS. THIS IS HER 10TH YEAR WORKING IN EDUCATION. SHE SAYS SHE BELIEVES TEACHING CHILDREN HISTORY HELPS THEM MAKE SENSE OF THE WORLD AROUND THEM. NOBODY SAT ME DOWN AND SAID BRADEN. IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY EDUCATE A CHILD, IT TAKES A VILLAGE, BUT IT DOES. AS THE WINNER, WILSON RECEIVES A TOTAL OF $25,000 AND USE OF A BRAND NEW BMW WHILE SERVING AS A ROVING AMBASSADOR FOR A YEAR, PROVIDING MENTORING. THREE OTHER UPSTATE TEACHERS WERE AMONG THE FINALISTS. ALL OF THEM RECEIVED $10,000. YE

An Upstate teacher was named 2025 South Carolina Teacher of the Year.Braden Wilson, an eighth-grade history teacher at Palmetto Middle School, was named as the winner during a ceremony Thursday in Columbia. This is Wilson's tenth year working in education.Wilson says she believes teaching children history helps them make sense of the world around them."Nobody sat me down and said 'Braden in order to effectively educate a child it takes a village,' but it does," Wilson said.Wilson received $25,000 and the use of a brand new BMW to provide mentoring while serving as a Roving ambassador for a year.Three other Upstate teachers were also among the finalists and received $10,000 each.
