One man has been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting of 55-year-old Jason Bales in Colorado Springs on April 18, according to a Thursday morning announcement from the Colorado Springs Police Department. 

Police said on the night of April 18 at roughly 11:48 p.m., officers received reports of shots fired in the 4200 block of Sinton Road. Officers on the scene found Bales, who was described as having life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died, officials said. 

Man accused of causing Fountain police officer's death set to begin trial

On Monday, police said the department obtained a warrant to arrest 29-year-old Michael Thomas Darby of Colorado Springs on a charge of first-degree murder.

Department officials said Darby was contacted by CSPD's Violent Fugitive Task Force and he was arrested without  incident.

According to police, the case remains open and active. Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation is encouraged to contact the department at 719-444-7000. 

Records state Darby is scheduled for a first appearance in court on May 6.
