Two men have been charged and are due in court following a significant drugs seizure in Co. Meath earlier this week.
As part of an intelligence-led joint operation involving the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue’s Customs Service, Revenue officers seized approximately 120 kgs of herbal cannabis on Tuesday.
The drugs, which have been sent for analysis, have an estimated value of €2.4 million and investigations are ongoing.
In an update, issued this Friday morning, gardai confirmed that two men, both in their 50’s, who were arrested on Tuesday have since been charged.
They are due to appear before Navan District Court later this Friday.
Separately, a man and a woman remain in garda custody after they were arrested in Co. Laois on Wednesday during follow-up searches.
"During the course of these searches cash in excess of €200,000, €140,000 suspected cannabis, €10,000 suspected MDMA tablets and a substantial amount of counterfeit prescription tablets were seized. A sophisticated illicit pill making facility, including a pill press, was also seized," said a garda spokesperson.
A man, aged in his 50s, and a woman, aged in her 40s, are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a garda station in Co. Laois.
