WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – The case has been dismissed against a woman charged with attempted murder.

Prosecutors were unable to proceed with their case against Andrea Tippins, 40, who appeared in custody for her preliminary examination on Tuesday, April 23, according to court records.

Tippins’ exam was set to take place before 14B District Court Judge Erane Washington. Instead, the case was dismissed on a motion by Tippins’ defense attorney, according to court records.

She had been charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon for injuring a man who reportedly owed her $25 for shoes.

The county prosecutor’s house did not respond Wednesday to a request for comment.

Police were called around 10:30 a.m. March 2 to Harriet and Adam streets in Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti police Lt. Robert Eggenberger said during a swear-to hearing before 14A-1 District Court Magistrate Elisha Fink. When they arrived, they found a man had been apparently stabbed in the torso, Eggenberger said.

A witness who was walking in the area told police Tippins approached and began arguing with the man about his debt. During the argument, Tippins stabbed the man before leaving the scene, Eggenberger said.

Tippins and the man were neighbors, he said.

Police found Tippins nearby and arrested her, Eggenberger said. She had a folding knife with her, but later told police she had hidden the knife used in the stabbing under a light pole post.

Police found the knife, Eggenberger said.

The victim was taken to Trinity Health and was in stable condition, according to previous reporting. Police did not provide an update on his condition.

Fink arraigned Tippins March 4.
