CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Charles County man who previously worked as a substitute teacher at a middle school for several months before later pleading guilty to child sex abuse charges has been sentenced to over a decade in prison, according to the Charles County State's Attorney's Office on Tuesday.
Malcolm Fluellyn, 27, received 46 years with all but 15 years suspended after pleading guilty to charges of inappropriately touching eight victims between 12 and 13 years old between December 2022 and February 2023.
Fluellyn, who was a permanent substitute teacher at General Smallwood Middle School during those 2-3 months, pleaded guilty back on Feb. 24 to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor and six counts of fourth-degree sexual offense.
At the time of his arrest back in 2023, Fluellyn was charged with six counts of sexual abuse of a minor, eight counts of sexual solicitation of a minor, 12 counts of displaying obscene matter to a minor, and six counts of fourth-degree sex offense.
School officials removed Fluellyn from his position shortly after he was accused of inappropriate contact with the eight victims, sometimes on multiple occasions, according to officials at the time. Officials also said Fluellyn reached out to victims on Instagram as well and made inappropriate comments about their bodies.
After Fluellyn completes his prison sentence, officials said he will remain on supervised probation for five years.
