SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — Bullets riddled the streets of Shreveport this weekend, leaving one man dead and another is fighting for his life.

Over a span of 24 hours, there were four separate shootings.

“Back in my day, it wasn’t like this,” one man recalled. “We just fight. We didn’t shoot people and stuff. All these young people now, they scared to fight. So they take their guns for violence, you know what I mean?”

It all started Friday night near the Louisiana State Fair Grounds. A woman told police she was driving with two friends down Pershing Boulevard when two people got out of a vehicle and started shooting at them. She was struck by a bullet and is expected to make a full recovery.

A few minutes later, police responded to the 800 block of Ute Trail, where they found a man with gunshot wounds to both of his legs.

And 23-year-old Albert Jones died after police received a report Saturday morning of a man lying in the road near David Raines Road. He had been shot in the back of his head, the coroner’s office reported.

Then near Marshall Street, police found several shell casings where two men were shot.

KSLA News 12 spoke with Shreveport residents Monday (April 22) who said the violence has to stop.

“What’s the point? What is it all about, you know what I’m saying? It doesn’t make sense,” one woman said.

“We need to get back to the roots, and that’s prayer, baby. They need to be trained. Train our kids. And what is all this hatred for? You know what you throw out is going to come back to you.”
