Dozens of people came from far and wide to show off their cars at the 55th Annual UW-Stout Antique Auto Club Car show.

MENOMONIE (WQOW) - Dozens of people came from far and wide to show off their cars at the 55th Annual UW-Stout Antique Auto Club Car show.

Some of the cars were a little older than the students in the auto club, like a 1974 AMC Gremlin. Joe, the owner, got the car last fall, and he got it specifically because it's not one you would see everyday.

"AMC has a strong Wisconsin heritage, so it kind of had that aspect going for it," Joe said. "It's a funky car, you don't really see them going around very much these days, puts a smile on people's faces when they see it."

The car was not in a running condition when Joe acquired the car last fall, but he got it running about a month ago.

"It's just a really oddball design, AMC didn't have a lot of money back in the 70s when this was built, and they needed a compact car to compete with the imports, so they took an AMC Hornet, and just kind of chopped the back end off, and sold it to the public," said Joe.

Across the lot, there was a car that has a special meaning to the owner.

"I am just a fan of El Caminos," said Richard Linde, owner of a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino. "My dad was real big into El Caminos and he passed a way, this is kind of a way I wanted to keep going with him."

Linde got the car five years ago, with the paintjob done in the nineties. He calls it the heartbeat of America, and he knows he wants to pass off his family's love of chevy El Caminos to the next generation.

"This is set for my granddaughter," Linde said.

On the other side of the show, there were some cars from the 21st century.

Michael Noel came with his 2008 turbo-charged Chevrolet Cobalt SS. This car is not an easy one to find on the road, as only 69 were made in that color.

"It just always puts a smile on my face" said Noel. "It's great how when I take off, I don't spin the tires, just keep going forward. It doesn't even just stand still, it wants to go no matter how hard you hit it."

Some cars were even less than ten years old, like Creo Lee's 2016 Ford Mustang GT.

"I put a wide body kit on it, custom wheels, they got their special offset, I got light bar on it, I had a bull bar, I put a centrifugal supercharger on it, so it's far from stock," Lee said.

He got the car five years ago, and has really made it his own.

"It's unique, I mean through and through. I liked cars since I was little, and coming to car shows since I was smaller, when I saw a whole bunch of cool cars, I built my own cool car," said Lee. "It's very loud, and kind of fast."

One of the main attractions is a 1954 Desoto Firedome, owned by the Stout Antique Auto Club.

"It has been in the club since the late 70s," said Kohl Kraft, President of the Stout Antique Auto Club. "We just basically maintain it, keep it running, she's very loyal. She runs beautifully."
