As an example of their work, in 2024, the commission focused on substance abuse prevention, mental health and financial literacy. The group organizes an annual 5K, and they have created public service announcements for Placer County high schools.
Alexandra Wride, a health educator with Placer County Health and Human Services, said the commission gives high school students a chance to be leaders, to put their ideas into action, and to learn more about their county.
"It just gives them that opportunity to have that voice and make the changes that they feel youth in their community are asking for," she said.
Applications are due April 30, and you can find more information here.
