KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) - A man was injured early Thursday when a dump truck with its bed raised struck an overhead sign on Interstate 435 in Wyandotte County, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 12:36 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 435, just north of Leavenworth Road in Kansas City, Kan.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2003 Sterling dump truck was headed south on I-435 with its bed raised, The patrol said the dump truck’s bed struck an overhead sign as it was passing beneath it.

The driver of the dump truck, Joseph L. England, 43, of Kansas City, Kan., was taken to the University of Kansas Hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.

The patrol said England, who was alone in the dump truck, was wearing his seat belt.

The dump truck had to be towed from the scene, the patrol said.
