Regarding the April 24 cartoon that she found “highly offensive,” a letter writer asks for proof that “even a few professors are inciting hatred of Jews.”

Here are examples:

Cornell Professor Russell Rickford told students regarding the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, “It was exhilarating, it was energizing.” (https://nypost.com/2023/10/25/news/cornell-prof-who-found-hamas-attack-exhilarating-now-on-leave-of-absence/amp/)

More than 100 Columbia University professors signed a letter defending students who supported Hamas’ action in Israel on Oct. 7. Surely those professors are aware that Hamas is an Islamist militant group that spun off from the Muslim Brotherhood. In 1997, the United States designated Hamas a foreign terrorist organization.

It is telling that the writer did not ask for proof that even a few professors acted in accordance with their responsibility to speak out against identity-base intimidation, outright threats and hostility against their Jewish students. This utter failure by academics fails all of us.
