COTTONWOOD COUNTY, Minn. (KEYC/Gray News) -- Authorities in Minnesota say a teenager has died after an accident while canoeing at a lake.

According to KEYC, the body of a 15-year-old was pulled from a Cottonwood County lake this week after reportedly drowning.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office said the unidentified teen was found in about 5 feet of water just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said the boy was last seen alive on Monday trying to retrieve an oar at Eagle Lake while he was fishing with a family member.

According to law enforcement, the canoe had drifted away from him and he was lost while attempting to swim to shore.

The sheriff’s office said no life jackets were in the canoe.

Multiple agencies were called to the lake to help find the 15-year-old.
