A devastated Scots mum who lost her baby boy to heart disease has thanked hero NHS staff for ‘giving her precious time’ with him.

Aimee Miller, 29, from Glasgow, was never able to bring baby Cameron Miller home after he had to undergo emergency surgery just days after being born.

The tiny tot was rushed from Glasgow Royal Infirmary to the Glasgow Children’s Hospital after medics noticed major issues with his vital organ.

Cameron bravely battled to survive for 18-weeks and three days, before he tragically passed away with his mum by his side on Friday, April 19.

Mum Aimee, told the Record: “Cameron was so beautiful and handsome.

“We knew he was going to be a heartbreaker, in the end he broke all our hearts.

“I can’t thank all of the nurses, surgeons and the full cardiac team the Glasgow Children’s Hospital. They were all in tears when Cameron passed, they just loved him so much.

“If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have got the time I had with him, I will be forever grateful for that.”

Cameron who was born in December 2023 was diagnosed with congenital heart disease at birth.

Aimee said: “The first 24 hours were perfectly normal and I was so happy with my boy. But the doctor was in the next day doing some standard tests.

“They were going to let me home with him but then they heard an echo when they listened to his heart. They started asking if I’d ever had a history of heart disease in my family.

“When they told me he heart disease it was a major shock. They had him away for ages to get him scanned. The next thing a crash team turned up and they rushed him to the Children’s Hospital for surgery.”

During his brave fight Cameron had four major heart operations including his last surgery where he spent 23 hours in the operating theatre as surgeons fought to save him.

Aimee added: “That was the toughest day of my life, up until the day I lost him. To see him pull through it just shows how brave and strong he was.”

Sadly, despite pulling through surgery Cameron developed a blood clot in one of his heart valves. Medics scrambled to treat him with blood thinners which they then increased, but tragically the tiny tot had a bleed in his stomach which proved fatal.

Aimee said: “I was called at 4am, I was staying over at Ronald McDonald house and they called me over to be there with him, so I could there in his final moments.

“He was my first baby and I’m still in a trance I don’t know how to feel, it just feels numb.”

Aimee’s pals have rallied round to support her with an online fundraiser launched to help with funeral costs and to fund Cameron’s headstone.

Close friend Stephanie Boyce set up the Go Fund Me dedicated to the “strongest little boy.”

Stephanie said: “We want to give Aimee a little help with the costs of a headstone for her little boy. Our Cameron showed us his strength every single day and fought every day which gave us all an amazing 18 weeks with him, to get us to know his cheeky character.

Aimee added: “The support I’ve had has just been amazing. Everybody that got to meet Cameron loved him. I’ve had people that didn’t know him sharing kind messages and support.

“It’s good to get Cameron’s story out there and raise awareness, I never knew anything about congenital heart conditions before all this, and I’m not the only parent who has had to go through it. It just makes me so sad.”
