22-year-old KYTC maintenance worker hit and killed in LaRue County
EXPECTED TO BE FILED. ALSO NEW TONIGHT KENTUCKY STATE TROOPERS INVESTIGATE A CRASH WHICH KILLED A KENTUCKY TRANSPORTATION CONTRACTOR. IT HAPPENED AROUND 9:00 THIS MORNING ALONG OLD ELIZABETHTOWN ROAD IN HODGENVILLE. TROOPERS SAY A LOUISVILLE MAN WAS DRIVING EAST WHEN HE ENTERED A PORTION OF THE ROAD, WHICH WAS REDUCED TO ONE LANE BECAUSE OF MAINTENANCE WORK. THEY SAY THE DRIVER DID NOT SEE THE CONTRACT FOR 22 YEAR OLD BLAKE BARNES FLAGGING TRAFFIC IN THE EASTBOUND LANE. BARNES DIED AT THE SCENE. THE DRIVER WAS WAS N

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says one of its team members was killed after being hit by a vehicle in LaRue County Tuesday.KYTC officials said that 22-year-old Blake Barnes was working with the maintenance operation on KY 210 when he was hit and killed by a van.Officials said the man driving the van was not injured.>>Read more top stories hereKYTC did say it is working with police to review the incident.Secretary Jim Gray released the following statement on behalf of KYTC:"Our hearts ache for the loss of a transportation team member today. We extend our sincere condolences to all those impacted by this tragedy. Please join us in lifting up the families, friends, and colleagues in your thoughts and prayers."KYTC said out of respect for the man's family and until they have a better understanding of the incident, they are not releasing any other details at this time.Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident.
