Attempted vehicle grand theft/shot fired: East 191st Street

Police were sent to a call April 17 on East 191st Street after a man fired a shot in the air to scare off a car theft attempt.

The man told police that while he was on the balcony of his apartment, he saw the suspect trying to break into his car. The man then fired a shot into the air to scare the thief away.

The man voluntarily turned over his gun to police, who also collected a bullet casing.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

A man reported April 15 that his 2010 Dodge was stolen from the parking lot at his apartment building. The property manager at the building told him there was no security video for the site.

Vehicle grand theft: Gateway Drive

Euclid officers were sent to a medical facility on April 15 where an employee reported that her car was stolen while she was at work. It was believed the thieves gained access to her car by breaking a window. The car was recovered April 16 by East Cleveland police.

Stolen vehicle recovered: Sidney Drive

Police found a stolen vehicle on April 15 in the parking lot of an apartment building. One cell phone was recovered. A second vehicle parked next to the stolen vehicle had a stripped steering column and contained criminal tools and drug paraphernalia. That car was impounded.

Burglary: East 221st Street

A woman reported April 16 she was being held in a closet within her home. When officers arrived, they were unable to make contact with the woman. When dispatchers reached her, she said she had escaped, but that a man who broke into her house and trapped her was still inside. Officers surrounded the residence and then arrested the man when he answered the door. The man was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail.

Traffic stop and arrest: East 200th Street

Police made a traffic stop on a vehicle and identified the man driving as wanted under an arrest warrant from Mayfield Heights police. The man was turned over to Mayfield Heights officers.

Attempted vehicle grand theft: East 191st Street

A worker at a rehabilitation center reported that someone tried to steal her car while it was parked at the business. Officers collected evidence.

Juvenile arrest: Euclid Avenue

Police were dispatched April 16 to a report of a teen boy suspected of looking into vehicles to try to steal one. The juvenile was identified and found to be in possession of criminal tools and a long kitchen knife. He was released to a family member.

Felonious assault: Adelbert Road, Cleveland

Police were called to University Hospitals’ Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital when a 3-month-old child was found to have several broken bones. Euclid police were called when it was discovered that the child and both her parents are Euclid residents. Police gathered initial information at the hospital. The case was turned over to Euclid detectives.

Burglary: Euclid Avenue

A woman reported April 17 that someone had entered her apartment and stolen various items. She was unsure when the crime happened.

Property damage: East 191st Street

Officers responded April 17 to a report that a man was breaking out windows on the rear of a residence. Police had no suspects.

Domestic violence arrest: East 193rd Street

Police arrested a man after responding to a domestic complaint on April 18. Officers discovered that a fresh domestic violence complaint had been signed against a man who was present at the residence. Once in a police cruiser, the man became violent, kicking the doors and banging his head. The man was taken to the Cuyahoga County Jail where he was booked on the domestic violence charge.

Vehicle grand theft: Euclid Avenue

Police were called April 18 by a man who said his car was stolen with the keys from a parking lot outside a business while he was inside playing volleyball. Police had no information on any suspects.

Domestic violence arrest: East 218th Street

Officers were sent April 18 to a report of a possible case of domestic violence. When the police arrived, the children at the residence told them the couple had been fighting. The woman told police the man choked and physically assaulted her. The woman also provided officers with a bag of firearms the man had. Police arrested the man on domestic violence charges. They also confiscated the firearms, which the man could not legally possess because of a criminal history.

Vehicle grand theft: East 209th Street

A man reported April 20 that his 2008 GMC Yukon was stolen from his driveway sometime in the evening of April 19.

Vehicle grand theft: Lakeshore Boulevard

A 2018 Hyundai Elantra was stolen April 21 from a parking lot at an apartment building. The owner tracked the car to Cleveland and saw several people wearing masks getting in and out of the car. They fled in the car as the owner attempted to trail them.

Driving under the influence: Euclid Avenue

Officers responded April 21 to the intersection of Euclid Avenue and East 195th Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the officers found a car overturned in a driveway on Euclid. The man who was driving was arrested for driving impaired and for firearms charges.
