SACO, Mont. - A suspect was killed after shooting one person and ramming a deputy’s car during a pursuit Sunday night.

Around 7:30 pm, deputies with the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched south of Saco for a report of someone who had been shot.

The suspect in the shooting was reportedly still armed and was threatening anyone who came into the yard.

After deputies and ambulance personnel were on scene, the suspect was confronted, leading to a pursuit where the suspect rammed into a deputy’s car, disabling it.

According to the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded with “deadly force” and the suspect was killed.

The original gunshot victim was taken to a Billings hospital with serious injuries and declared dead at the scene.

Sheriff Jerry Lytle requested the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation to conduct an independent investigation, and the Valley County Coroner has been asked to conduct the death investigation.

“This is a difficult time for both of the suspects’ family and the deputies involved,” Sheriff Lytle said. “I am committed to having a complete and independent process and ask the community keeps all the families involved in their thoughts and prayers.”
