(KNSI) — The Express store at Crossroads Center Mall is closing after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Express, Inc. is looking to sell the majority of its stores and has received a letter of intent from WHP Global as a potentially interested buyer. WHP Global is looking to buy up a good chunk of the company’s retail stores and operations. To help the sale move forward, Express, Inc. filed voluntary Chapter 11 petitions and secured a commitment for $35 million in new financing, subject to court approval. It received $49 million in cash from the IRS related to CARES Act funding and announced the closure of nearly 100 stores. Chapter 11 allows a debtor to propose a reorganization plan to stay in business and repay creditors.

The closing sales at affected stores are scheduled to begin today, Tuesday, April 23rd. Company officials say online sales will continue without interruption.

The next closest Express brick-and-mortar location is the Shops at Albertville.
