OU's Murray, Brown named first-team AP All-Americans

After winning the Heisman Trophy and AP National Player of the Year, it was nothing more than a formality that Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray would be named a first-team AP All-American.

Junior receiver Marquise Brown joined him Monday as a first-team selection.

OU left guard Dru Samia was a second-team selection and right tackle Cody Ford was picked to the third team.

Murray follows Baker Mayfield as a first-team quarterback selection. He led the nation with a school-record 4,945 yards. He also led the nation in quarterback rating (205.7) and yards per pass attempt (11.9) while throwing 40 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He ran for 892 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Brown was his top target with 1,318 receiving yards on 75 catches and 10 touchdowns. He averaged 17.6 yards per catch.

Samia and Ford helped anchor an OU offensive line that is one of three finalists for the Joe Moore Award, given to the best offensive line in college football.

OSU's Wallace named second-team AP All-American

OSU receiver Tylan Wallace continues to garner national recognition for his breakout sophomore season.

Wallace was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press. Sports Illustrated also had Wallace on its All-America second team. In both cases, Oklahoma's Brown and Alabama's Jerry Jeudy were on the first team, with Massachusetts' Andy Isabella joining Wallace on the second team.

Wallace was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award after finishing with 1,408 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns. He was the national leader in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns against ranked opponents, with performances of at least 220 receiving yards against Big 12 title game participants Oklahoma and Texas.

OSU's Kolar joining brother at Iowa State

Another Oklahoma State football player has elected to transfer to spend his final year of eligibility with family.

Quarterback John Kolar announced Sunday he plans to spend his final collegiate season at Iowa State, where his brother, Charlie, plays tight end. Both John and Charlie are Norman North products. Next season, OSU travels to Iowa State on Oct. 26.

John Kolar announced his intent to transfer in late November. The second-ranked recruit in OSU's 2015 class per 247Sports Composite, Kolar completing one of his two pass attempts for 8 yards as a redshirt freshman in 2016 in his only game action as a Cowboy.

Kolar is among five Cowboys who have decided to transfer and the third whose decision appears to be definitively family-based. Receiver Jalen McCleskey intends to transfer to Tulane; his father, JJ McCleskey, is a defensive backs coach for the Green Wave. Defensive tackle Darrion Daniels has yet to publicly announce his transfer destination, but he informed OSU's coaching staff he plans to go to Nebraska and play with his brother, Damion Daniels, a Cornhuskers redshirt freshman. Kolar, McCleskey and Daniels are all expected to be graduate transfers who will be eligible to play immediately.

Running back J.D. King, a Fitzgerald, Georgia, product, elected to play closer to home and transfer to Georgia Southern. Safety Thabo Mwaniki hasn't announced where he intends to transfer. The two sophomores will have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules, but both players still have their redshirts available.
