LA JOLLA, CA — Visitors to Scripps Beach, north of La Jolla, on Friday were warned after several sightings of a roughly 6-foot shark near the surf line were reported in the area, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Lifeguards made public-address announcements and posted warning signs along the beach as a precaution.

The shark was not acting aggressively, a city spokeswoman said. However, one surfer who reportedly saw the shark did describe it as "acting aggressively"' while swimming to the north.
