David Petraeus Was And Is A Gallant Warrior And Great General - And Response

  • Wednesday, November 14, 2012

If our nation has reached the point that an intelligence agency or an investigative agency is expected to, or permitted to, prematurely divulge to Congress (or anyone else) the information in its working files, we are on an irreversible slide toward destruction.

If the United States Congress or the American people get a lascivious thrill out of peering into the personal life of a national hero, we should hang our heads in shame.

He has broken no laws. He has disclosed no classified information. He has acted with honor in a difficult personal situation. Unless you have stood a watch and served, as he has, to protect  this nation, what gives you do you the right to cast aspersions?

Even if he did time his voluntary retirement announcement to suit his convenience (or that of his Commander-in-Chief),  --- Well, so what?

General Patraeus is a patriot and superb general. Period.

But in June, he learned that the FBI knew he's been horsin' around with what we are being told is crazy woman who threatened what we are being told is a bimbette friend of his. He breaks off the affair and goes back to work but now he knows married mother bimbette and his married mega-star general friend have sent 30,000 emails (emails, 40 something incriminating pages a day) to each other about stuff other than the weather. Dew whott?

And there's Eric Holder knowing all of this since late summer and Patraeus's boss, the guy in charge of security for the entire country, doesn't find out until election day? Really? And in the middle of it all Bengasi happens and the CIA (Patraeus) says it was because of a video?

I think Patraeus is a great man but I'm not yet sure he, and we, ain't collateral. So far, this thing flunks the stink test. Something bigger, or even more colossally stupid, is going on and I hope they flush it out. Stay tuned.
