Families consider relocating down under. Will New Zealand offer the Crawford family the healthy outdoor lifestyle Candice craves?

South African-born Candice met husband Sean during a working holiday in the Lake District. When they married and became parents to Shannon and Nathan soon after, Candice struggled to feel at home in the UK. Desperate to give her children the outdoor childhood she had enjoyed, she persuaded the family to relocate to her home country in 2010.

While the weather was everything she wanted, the country's social climate left the family fearing for their safety. Things came to a head when a taxi ran them off the road during the school run one morning, and five years after arriving, the family returned to the UK.

However, Candice still can't settle. Desperate to give her young family a healthier lifestyle, she is now convinced New Zealand could give them the sunshine and security they crave. But Sean is less than convinced about making another international move - this time to a country neither of them have ever even been to. Enjoying being back on home turf, he is wary of cutting ties with his extended family for a second time.

A week in Tauranga in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty shows the whole family what life could be like on the other side of the world. But will it be enough to tempt Sean to sign up to Candice's dream of relocating all over again?

Crawford family update

When we last spoke with the Crawfords they were in the UK and doing well. As it happens when they returned to the UK Candice was offered a job at the beautiful gothic Auckland Castle – that’s the one in Durham not New Zealand (where castles are few and far between!).  She is loving her work.

But New Zealand is still very much in their plans, they are just waiting for the right position to become available for Sean - so they are keeping their eyes and ears open for opportunities.

Candice’s brother and wife have recently emigrated to New Zealand and this has made them want to move more than ever. Watch this space!
