Amber Alert canceled; boy found alive with stolen car
Jacob Vargas, 2, discovered in Monterey County
An Amber Alert has been canceled after a 2-year-old boy was found alive in a stolen vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
Soledad police chief told NBC Bay Area that Jacob Vargas was found with the stolen vehicle in Gonzales in Monterey County, which is just north on Highway 101 of where the vehicle was taken.
Jacob's stepfather said police told him the stolen car was found locked in a "shack" on River Road, and that the boy is in "good health."
Jacob was inside a car when it was stolen about 6:50 a.m. from his father's driveway on Head Street in Soledad, officers said. His father left the vehicle running and went back inside his home, only to come back outside to find the vehicle gone.
It is unclear if there have been any arrests.
