Boulder is the fifth most well-read city in the United States, according to online retailer Amazon.com.

The rankings, released today, were determined by compiling Amazon’s per capita sales of books, magazines and newspapers in both print and Kindle format since June 1, 2011.

Only cities with more than 100,000 residents were included.

Alexandria, Va. was the most well-read city, according to the report. Cambridge, Mass.; Berkeley, Calif.; Ann Arbor, Mich. — all fellow college towns — and Boulder rounded out the Top 5.

According to Amazon.com, Boulder also ordered more books in the health, fitness and dieting category than any other city on the list.

Boulder was the only Colorado city listed in Amazon’s Top 20, which can be viewed here.
