Delighted teachers at an Egremont school are celebrating after receiving a good Ofsted report.

St Bridget's Catholic Primary School has maintained its 'good' rating, after inspectors visited in December last year.

This was the first inspection since the school was handed its 'good' mark in June 2013.

Headteacher Suzanne Smith said: "It is with great pride and delight we got to start the term off with the publication of our Ofsted letter. We are very proud of how it recognises what a 'good' school we are.

"Every member of the St. Bridget's team, from staff to governors, is invested in ensuring all children receive the best education and experiences in order for them to fulfil their potential.

"We feel the inspector recognised this in his letter when he said, 'It is clear that everyone at the school works for the benefit of pupils. A pupil joining St Bridget’s can be confident that they will be valued, looked after and expected to try hard.'"

The report found early years provision at the school was led effectively, teachers and leaders successfully worked hard to improve teaching and, since the last inspection, there had been a concerted effort to improve pupils' writing.

It said pupils look smart, and are proud of the way they and their new uniform represent their school, which is part of the background to their "very good behaviour" in lessons.

St Bridget's staff also received praise for their accurate self-evaluation, the additional nursery provision they now provide and the school's social media page, which increases engagement with parents.

Ofsted found the school's determination to keep pupils safe is demonstrated by the wide display of details about safeguarding, adding the pupils said that they feel safe when they are at school.

The inspector stated school leaders' should ensure the established high expectations, effective teaching and good behaviour in the school further allow pupils to learn faster and increase rates of progress so that their attainment is as high as possible.
