Evanston Laundromat Struck By Car For 2nd Time In 12 Days

EVANSTON, IL — A hit-and-run driver sent a car crashing into a laundromat Tuesday morning in Evanston, police said. Its the second time in 12 days that Dreamland Clean & Wash, 807 Howard St., has been struck by a car.

Around 6:47 a.m., a white Nissan Versa was struck by another vehicle near the intersection of Howard Street and Elmwood Avenue, according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew. The force from the collision caused the front of the vehicle to smash into the east side of the laundromat and come to a halt amid a pile of bricks. The driver, a 60-year-old Evanston woman, was was not taken to the hospital.

The driver had been headed south in the 100 block of Elmwood Avenue when it was struck by a black Nissan, which fled the scene with heavy damage to its front end, Glew said. Structural engineers are on scene evaluating the building, according to police and fire officials.

Another white car crashed through the east side of the laundromat on Nov. 30, according to the Evanston Fire Department. Some of the building's windows were still boarded up at the time of the Dec. 11 incident.
