Animals Escape Longmont Barn Fire

A malfunctioning air conditioner may have started the blaze that destroyed a barn Sunday night.

LONGMONT, CO – An air conditioner on the fritz may have caused a fire near Longmont that destroyed a barn.

No animals were injured in the fire Sunday night that started around 9 p.m. in the 7500 block of North 67th Street, the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said.

The barn's owner told investigators the family returned from a camping trip and "turned on the air conditioner to cool off the barn." Smoke and flames appeared shortly thereafter, and the owner tried, unsuccessfully, to douse the fire with a garden hose.
