C. Phillip Shank, 77

C. Philip Shank, born February 6, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pa., died October 14, 2018 at home in Winchester, Ky.

First born son to Roy & Rita Shank. He was the father of Charles (Sue Anne) Shank of Kinderhook, NY., Christine Beck of Boynton Beach, Fl., Dan (Regina) Shank of Clay City, Ky., and Donald Shank of Winchester, Ky. Grandfather of Brian, David & Alayna Shank; Jacob & Bridget Beck and Anthony (Amber) Johnson. Phil was predeceased by his wife Ruthie (Falvey) Shank, his parents, his brother Curtis and his sister Bonnie. He is survived by his brother David (Louise) Shank of Albuquerque, NM., and his sister Susan (Mike) Young of Raleigh, NC., as well as many nieces and nephews.

Phil obtained degrees from the University of Dayton and Akron, Ohio, earning his PhD in Chemistry from UD in 1968. He worked for General Electric at the plastics operation in Selkirk, NY., first as a chemist earning several patents finishing as Manager of Research & Development. He left GE in 1984 and started with Mallinckrodt in Paris, Ky and St. Louis, Mo., as Technical Director.

He was an avid old car guy and was a member of the Bluegrass Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America. He loved to drive and was proud to be known as the Ky Roadrunner. He loved life, his family, his faith and lived with his glass half full.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester, Ky., where his funeral mass will be held on October 19, 2018 at noon. He will be laid to rest next to Ruthie in the Winchester Cemetery.

A celebration of his life will be held in St. Joseph’s Parish Hall immediately following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Hospice East, 407 Shoppers Dr, Winchester, Ky. 40391 or Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main St. Suite 2, Clarkston, MI. 48386.
