NH Science Teen Featured Within Marvel’s Unstoppable Wasp Comic

Julie Seven Sage is the newest member of the Agent of GIRL

The local young scientist featured on October 17th in Marvel’s newly released comic Unstoppable Wasp is Julie Seven Sage, who has done a multitude of things such as sending experiments into space, designing an award-winning invention, working with MIT Media Lab on building a CubeSat, and running her own YouTube channel which includes a science news show she’s been producing for two years and two more shows starting soon. Double Midnight Comics and Games in Manchester, New Hampshire is having an event on the 20th of October to celebrate the release of the Unstoppable Wasp, where Julie Sage is going to be doing superhero-themed experiments and signings of the new first issue of the comic which an interview with her appears.

The Unstoppable Wasp is a Marvel comic that was first released on January 1st, 2017. It ran for a full 8 issues, before it was cancelled. They released the trades later, and those sold so astoundingly well and had such a high popular demand, that they are re-starting the comic series! On October 17th, the new 1st issue starts off where the original 8th issue ended. The comic is about Nadia Van Dyne, Hank Pym’s daughter with his first wife, Maria Troyya, who was kidnapped by the red room. Nadia was then raised in the red room and eventually escaped by creating a suit like her father’s. She then moved to America, where she formed a group with other teenage girl scientists called the Agents of G.I.R.L., which stands for Genius In Action Research Labs. Together, they fight crime and help people. In the back of every issue, they feature at least one real-life female scientist. And that is where Julie Sage will be featured, and will be the youngest Agent of G.I.R.L. She was interviewed by Nadia herself, and answered many questions about her scientific career. The artists of the comic did a drawing of Julie as well, officially making her part of the comic.

For most of her life, Julie Sage has been interested in science. She has completely devoted her life to teaching and promoting STEAM to everyone she can. Ever since she was six, she’s wanted to be an astrophysicist. Since then, she’s been up to a lot of different projects and has been going to a lot of events. MIT and Harvard University have been frequent places that Julie has visited for a multitude of things, like the high school student program at MIT’s Media Lab where the students learn to design, build, and launch a CubeSat, and going to Harvard to talk with many amazing mentors in the Harvard Center for Astrophysics. She has taken two free college courses online, one from Harvard about Super-Earths and life and the other from University of Washington about public speaking, and passed them with flying colors. Julie has also learned a multitude of coding languages and has even taught other girls how to code. She’s launched three experiments into space, two on a NASA high-altitude balloon and one on a NASA sounding rocket, through the Cubes in Space program. Julie has won many awards as well, like the Mars Generation’s 24 Under 24 Leaders and Innovators in STEAM and Space award, 2nd place in the middle school division for the National Science Foundation’s Generation Nano: Superheroes Inspired by Science competition, and the NH State Merit Award winner for the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge for her water distillation and filtration system. Not only all of that, but she also runs her own science news show on YouTube called Supernova Style Science News and has two more shows coming soon with her network 7 Sage Labs.
