OLD RIVALS TUNE OUT OPIE AND ANTHONY

Opie and Anthony got the door slammed in their faces by Clear Channel yesterday, as the radio giant said it had absolutely no interest in hiring the just-fired shock jocks.

“They don’t fit in with the brands we have in New York. God bless ’em, but we have no interest in them at all,” said Andy Rosen, Clear Channel’s regional vice president.

Supporters of the deviant duo, fired last week by WNEW-FM for airing a segment in which two fans had sex in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, have been speculating that Opie and Anthony would be hired by Q104.

The classic-rock station, owned by Clear Channel, recently went the shock-jock route by adding Leslie “The Radio Chick” Gold to its lineup, and Opie and Anthony’s fans saw Q104 as their heroes’ next stop.

And they had hoped to see them go up against reigning shock jock Howard Stern.

But Rosen poured cold water on the rumors, saying his company has had no conversations with the pair – and won’t.

One high-ranking radio exec said that with the FCC investigating the possibility of yanking the license of WNEW, owned by Infinity Broadcasting, Opie and Anthony may find it hard to get work.

“They do have a big following, but there are certain areas where you just don’t push it. There are now many advertisers that won’t go near them,” the exec told The Post.

Opie and Anthony, whose real names are Gregg Hughes and Anthony Cumia, did not return calls last night.

Meanwhile, WNEW has given the dynamic duo’s coveted afternoon drive slot to Ron Pennington and Fez Whatley, whose “Ron and Fez Show” had previously aired in a nightly time slot now occupied by Infinity’s L.A.-based talker Tom Leykis. Until more program changes are announced, WNEW will run four-hour segments called the “Best of Ron and Fez.”
