GreenJackets sweep doubleheader from Greenville

Greenville, SC--The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, took both games in a double header on Wednesday against the Greenville Drive. They won the first game 9-2 then took the second game 3-0.

In the first game, two innings of the long ball was all the GreenJackets needed. In the second, John Riley gave the GreenJackets a 3-0 lead with a three run homer to left. This was immediately followed by a Rob Calabrese solo home run. The GreenJackets took a 4-0 lead into the third inning.

John Riley was back it again, when he double to score two more in the inning. That put his total to five RBIs on the day. Then later in the inning, a three run home run from Heliot Ramos gave the GreenJackets nine runs early in the game.

On the mound, John Gavin was dominate once again. He went five innings, only giving up three hits and two runs. This earned Gavin his second win of the season.

In the next game, the GreenJackets took an early lead when an RBI single from Ryan Kirby scored Ramos. a Malique Ziegler solo home run in the fourth inning would double the GreenJackets lead. Then in the seventh inning, Manuel Geraldo scored an insurance run to give the GreenJackets a 3-0 lead.

On the mound, Jose Marte was spectacular. He went five innings only giving up three hits and no runs. He then turned the ball over to Peter Lannoo and Frank Rubio who both pitched scoreless innings to secure the victory for the GreenJackets.

The GreenJackets are now in first place in the Southern Atlantic League Southern Division. They will be back in action tomorrow night at 7 pm as they go for a four game sweep against the Drive. They are currently 5-1 on their seven game road trip.
