Terence Rutherford Short

Terence Rutherford Short, age 83, resident of Cooperstown, ND passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Griggs County Care Center in Cooperstown.

Terry was born November 6, 1931 in Foster County the son of Rutherford and Deana (Vining) Short. He grew up and was educated in the McHenry, ND area and graduated from Juanita High School in 1950. Terry started farming and was a school bus driver in McHenry. On September 20, 1957 he married Gayle Pierce on the Vining farm. During this time Terry had various construction and welding jobs. Gayle passed away March 1, 1989. On May 31, 1997 Terry married Shirley Norgard at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown. After their marriage they lived in Cooperstown where Terry worked as a welder for Sheyenne Tooling. He also found time to cut and bail hay during the summer months. Terry enjoyed woodworking, dancing, gardening and spending a little time at the casino. He was known as a jokester amongst family and friends.

Terry is survived by his wife Shirley Norgard-Short of Cooperstown, ND, son Terry (Paula) Short of West Fargo, ND, daughters Theresa Hazemann of Moorhead, MN, Denise (Tom) Christianson of Upham, ND, Laura (Ron) Rader of Lisbon, ND and Connie (Bruce) Klein of Minot, ND, step-daughter Maria (Roger) Provost of Clyde, KS, 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, sisters Maxine Olson of Pelican Rapids, MN, Roberta Williams of New Rockford, ND, Judy (Glenn) Cudworth of Sheyenne, ND, Linda Somerville of Minnewaukan, ND and Ruth Zidon of Dilworth, MN, brother Dave Short of McHenry, ND, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Gayle, daughter Jean Marie Short, stepson David Norgard, son-in-law Jeff Hazemann, grandsons Brandon Klein and Trevor Hazemann, great granddaughter Avyn Iglehart and brothers Kendall, Doug, Brian, Jack and Tim.

Memorial services for Terry will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be Monday, January 26, 2015 from 5 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM family service in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, McHenry, ND at a later date.
