Concert at CCC benefits Family Promise

VINELAND – Family Promise of Cumberland County will host a family night of music featuring the Tri-County Symphonic Band from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the Frank Guaracini Jr. Fine and Performing Arts Center on the Cumberland County College campus at Sherman Avenue and College Drive.

The band performs various music genres including big band, modern, silver screen and Broadway.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

The mission of Family Promise of Cumberland County is to provide a safe haven for homeless families while they work to become self-reliant.

Stone Harbor beach cleanup help sought

STONE HARBOR – Join The Wetlands Institute, Clean Ocean Action, Stone Harbor Borough and Stone Harbor Property Owners Association for a fall beach sweep and cleanup Oct. 25. Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. at the 95th Street beach entrance.

Volunteers will be provided trash bags, gloves and data sheets. They are encouraged to wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes.

Clothing drive organized by 4-H

DEERFIELD – The Cumberland County 4-H Youth Development Program will conduct a clothing drive through Nov 5. Donations may be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the 4-H Center, 291 Morton Ave.

“Our goal is 100 bags,” 4-H program assistant Cyndy Hetzell said. “This is a great opportunity to do some fall cleaning. We will accept gently used clothing, small toys, stuffed animals, curtains and bedding.”

Bridgeton Legends banquet set for Friday

PITTSGROVE – The Bridgeton Legends Event has been held annually and has provided more than $100,000 toward its primary beneficiary, Bridgeton Main Street, as well as the Bridgeton Area Police Athletic League and Bridgeton Invitational Tournament.

This year’s event will recognize the James Hursey Family and Gary Simmerman. In addition to benefiting Bridgeton Main Street, event proceeds will go to the All Sports Museum of Southern New Jersey (formerly known as the Bridgeton Hall of Fame).

The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Centerton Country Club. Tickets are $50, including fillet and crab dinner.

Fire company to host oyster, ham dinner

COMMERCIAL – Port Norris Fire Company will hold its annual fall oyster and ham dinner from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at its firehouse, 6858 Brown St.

Halloween party helps team fight cancer

BUENA VISTA – Team Helping Hands, community volunteers for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Cumberland County, will hold its fourth annual Let’s Scare Cancer Halloween Costume Party at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Five Points Inn, 580 Tuckahoe Road, East Vineland.

The evening will include a buffet dinner, beer and soda from 8 p.m. to midnight, a DJ and dancing, a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese auction, a Halloween costume contest, door prizes and games. MILLVILLE – The Greater Millville Chamber of Commerce will present an interactive Halloween murder mystery, “Once Bitten, Twice Dead,” from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at The Glassworks, 1101 Wheaton Ave.

“This promises to be a really fun evening, something a little different and interactive,” chamber Executive Director Earl Sherrick said. “There will be good food, laughter, and intrigue and hopefully costumes.”

A cocktail hour with a cash bar and appetizers begins at 6 p.m. A buffet dinner starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $55 per person or $400 for a table of eight.

“The event is the chamber’s primary annual fundraiser and FUN-raiser, and as in the past, will be a room full of friends. There will be good food, laughter, dancing, intrigue and an entire evening of just plain fun! You’ll even have the opportunity to solve the mystery,” Sherrick said. “Guests are encouraged to wear costumes although they are optional.”

Vineland 5K goal: Cancer awareness

VINELAND – The I Cancer 5 “I Can Survive” 5K Run and Walk will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 at Higher Places Ministries, 40 W. Landis Ave.

The registration fee is $100 for individuals or $500 for a team of five.

Higher Places Ministries is a nonprofit organization that serves the Vineland community. The event is being held to raise awareness of the many cancers that exist and to encourage the support of research with hopes of finding a cure, along with aiding families with a contribution to help meet their financial needs.

OysterFest returns to Vineland in Nov.

Project Thanksgiving turkey drive returns

Project Thanksgiving’s fifth annual turkey drive is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 22. Donations will be used to support the Food Bank of Southern New Jersey in Gloucester County and the Salvation Army in Cumberland County and part of Atlantic County.
