Metropolis Festival returns for its fourth edition in the RDS following last year’s triumphant sell-out Halloween bank holiday weekend.
Metropolis Festival is a multi-stage, indoor winter music festival and conference which launched in the RDS in 2015 and was the first of its kind in Ireland. The festival has created a whole new experience on the Irish festival landscape.
With just weeks to go Metropolis excitedly announced new artists who will be performing on at fourth outing, with many more still to be announced. Already the massive line up for the event includes Roisin Murphy, Villagers, Blood Orange, Young Fathers, He Black Madonna, Grandbrothers, Gwenno, and David Keenan and now there are more!
Maceo Plex
Maceo Plex is one of the hardest-working electronic artists in the game - and his career seems like the stuff of legends. Getting his start as a DJ at the age of 16 in Texas and working his way up to music production at 19, the musical machine that is Maceo Plex has gone on to release 68 singles and EPs, five albums and performed in over 40 different countries since the turn of the century. Come check out this ‘unmistakable musical mastermind with tracks bursting at his seams.’
Kojaque
Following an outstanding summer of festivals and sold out Button Factory and Academy headline shows, Dublin rapper Kojaque is an artist steadily gaining ground on the Irish and international music scene, thanks to his production style, stunning visuals and biting lyrics. Co-founder of independent label Soft Boy Records, Kojaque mixes sampling and jazz beats with dynamic, poetic lyrics, showcasing life as a modern Dubliner. An established film-maker and visual artist as well as a musician, Kojaque’s multi-media performances and projects are unlike anything else in Irish hip-hop; brutal, honest, and beautiful at once. With a vast range of work produced both independently and with Soft Boy Records, Kojaque’s influences range from MF DOOM to Stevie Wonder. Kojaque has worked with notable Irish producers such as JarJarJr, GAPTOOF and Wastefellow - and his influence on Irish hip-hop is palpable.
Honey Dijon
Honey Dijon is a Chicago-born DJ, hailing from the home of house music, but splits her time between New York and Berlin. Her brazen style blends all genres without looking to the past. She captivates with her instinct, versatile sound and dazzles the club and fashion circuit in London, Paris, Berlin and New York - she is truly ‘a bona fide staple in both the fashion world and serious electronic music circles.’ Vogue. Friendly Fires
Prepare to catch the brilliant UK trio Friendly Fires. They have burst back on to the scene following a 5-year hiatus with new singles, a brand new album (due out next year) and some serious live dates. Following on from the recent single ‘Love Like Waves’ the band stormed a series of sold out live dates in the UK, where the live reviews have been nothing short of incredible. . Expect some new tracks to be interwoven with some of their stand out tunes like ‘Kiss Of Life’, ‘Skeleton Boy’ and ‘Paris’.
Booka Brass
With their signature melodies and rhythmic, raucous pizazz, Irish 8-piece Booka Brass will join us this October bank holiday. Featuring trumpets, trombones, saxophones, sousaphones and drums – these guys know how to get a party started. They’ve performed the length and breadth of the country and have been special guests to the likes of Hot 8 Brass Band and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
David Keenan
Making waves on the Irish music scene is the super talented folk singer David Keenan. Words and melody took hold of David at a very early age. Exposed to the writings of Behan, Yeats, and Wilde with the soundtrack of Dylan, Buckley and The Dubliners illuminating his formative years. Having played alongside the likes of Mick Flannery, Hothouse Flowers, Damien Dempsey and Glen Hansard, David is fast becoming one of Ireland's most talked about young artists. Directed by the talented Myles O’Reilly, check out David’s track 'Cobwebs.
David O'Doherty
The Master of Ceremonies...known for his whimsical musical comedy and armed with his trusty keyboard, we are chuffed to have David O'Doherty join us for the Saturday night of Metropolis. Expect to hear some jaunty jingles and some quirky observations from the Dublin comedian. A regular face on panel shows such as ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’, ‘QI’, ‘Would I Lie To You’, along with his many festival appearances both at home and abroad including Edinburgh Fringe and Melbourne Comedy Festival - you’re in for a serious treat with his latest show.
Trinity Orchestra
Trinity Orchestra, the symphony orchestra of Trinity College Dublin, is Ireland’s only fully student run orchestra. It brings together students and staff from every discipline in the college. This year they will be joining us to play the pop-packed repertoire of Sweden’s most amazing musical heroes, ABBA. Dancing Queens, this is for you.
