Man Steals Cutout Of 3 Wise Men From Santa Cruz Church: CHP

Officials said the man ran in front of a CHP patrol car, which drew the officer's attention to him.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — In a crime that could only happen this time of year, a man stole a cutout of the Three Wise Men from a Santa Cruz church Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said. Ding Tai, 20, of Santa Cruz was carrying a stolen banner and Magi cutout when he ran in front of a CHP patrol car around 1 a.m., the CHP said.

Tai ran in front of the patrol car on Highland Avenue near Spring Street carrying a cutout taken from a nativity scene at the Messiah Lutheran Church nearby, the CHP said. The officers tried to stop Tai, who ran from them stumbling and falling due to intoxication, according to the police report. Tai was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, drunk in public and unlawful use of a
driver's license.
