The Netflix comedy Disjointed is a trippy show. What else would you expect from a show centered around pot and set in a marijuana dispensary in California? Of course things are gonna get surreal on this show!

But not every trip is a good one for the dispensary’s employees, and none of them know this as thoroughly and, well, intimately as growth expert Pete (Dougie Baldwin). The chill stoner with a knack for growing weed got a little too into his work in the first half of Season 1, and he fell in love with Mary Jane, the sexy and hallucinatory embodiment of all his weed dreams. And after he broke off his emotionally damaging, one-sided (because, you know, the other side wasn’t real) relationship with Mary Jane, he found himself battling a deadlier adversary: Biowave

Pete’s relationship with his biowave indoor growth enhancer was strictly professional, but it quickly became more of a puppet/puppeteer thing as Biowave began to assert himself. In the Season 1B episode “A-A-R-Pot,” the neon R2-D2-looking robot first spoke to Pete, establishing himself as a threat and cunning manipulator.

But we’re not here to talk about Biowave’s plan. We’re here to talk about Biowave’s voice, because the evil little guy sounds a lot like living legend Morgan Freeman. Is it Morgan Freeman? Did Disjointed convince Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman to do a day’s worth of VO work for three episodes of a stoner sitcom?

No, no they did not.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Disjointed fans, but Morgan Freeman is not the voice of Biowave. Don’t feel bad about being fooled, though, because it is a very good impersonation. In fact, the Morgan Freeman soundalike is actually master impersonator Frank Caliendo.

You probably know Frank Caliendo from his time on MADtv, or his work as the go-to George W. Bush impersonator on late night shows. Or maybe you saw his sketch show Frank TV, which aired for one season on TBS in 2007. The guy’s a vocal chameleon, and his latest feat is tricking all of us into thinking Morgan Freeman voiced a weed-growing robot on Disjointed.

And just in case you need more convincing, here’s Caliendo doing his Morgan Freeman impersonation just last year!
