LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a crash that took place around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night near Tropicana and Maryland Parkway, close to UNLV.

LVMPD Lt. David Gordon told FOX5 one person was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated a crash involving a Ford F-150 and a Toyota Corolla on the left of three eastbound lanes of Tropicana.

Officers later determined the drivers of both the Toyota and Ford were outside their vehicles inspecting the damage and calling 911, the driver of an incoming 2014 Toyota Camry failed to use due care and struck the rear of the stopped Ford F-150.

Police said the second crash caused the Ford F-150 to move forward, striking the driver of the Toyota Corolla, briefly pinning him between the vehicles.

The driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to Sunrise Hospital Trauma for further medical treatment, where he remains in critical condition.

Upon further investigation by officers, impairment is suspected on the part of one of the involved drivers.

Police closed Tropicana in both directions between Tamarus & Maryland Parkway for several hours.
