About Ben Miller III - From His Sister

  • Wednesday, July 28, 2004

This is a reply to A. Burton's questions regarding Ben Miller, candidate for School Board District 7 seat.

Ben Miller, III is the son of the late County Commissioner, Ben Miller, Jr. and current Commissioner, Lou Miller. He was born, raised, and
educated in Chattanooga. He attended his neighborhood schools, Highland Park Elementary, East Side Jr. High, and Central High School. He was active in the ROTC program at Central, and after graduation, attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was active in their ROTC program, graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, and was commissioned into the United States Army as a second lieutenant. He served three years as a military intelligence officer in Germany and several years in the Reserves.

Returning from active duty, Ben re-enrolled at UTC and earned his teaching certification in secondary education. His wife, Carolyn, taught in the Hamilton County school system. The Millers have two children who attended and graduated from Hamilton County Schools and are pursuing Masters and Doctorate degrees out of state.

Ben has worked with several health care organizations as both an employee and consultant. He has been very active in the community and has served as chairperson for several different civic boards. He is a member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church where he serves as an Elder. Ben has written several articles for the EAP(employee assistance program) and managed care field. EAP's under his direction have earned numerous awards and citations, including three Honorable Mentions by the National Managed Health Care Congress and a National Association of Counties Award for his work with County government. Ben has worked for Memorial Hospital, Greenleaf Health System, Erlanger Health System, and Cariten PHP. He is President of EAP Care, Inc, a freestanding employee assistance provider and Shepherd's Care, a Church assistance program both based in Chattanooga.

Ben has always had an interest in politics, serving his community, and has a calling to help ALL people regardless of race, creed, color, or political persuasion. He is a fine Christian man with the dedication and drive I think is needed to bring Hamilton County Schools to a new era. His is a man of integrity and honesty, and has provided me with the
love, support, and guidance for more than 48 years. I know he will do the very best job possible to support ALL students, parents, community members, and others, while keeping his word and standing for nothing but the best for Hamilton County Schools. He and I were blessed with a wonderful role model in our late father, Ben Miller, Jr. who said what he meant, and meant what he said for his constituents. Ben Miller, III will continue this tradition.
