These Box Braids Are So Freaking Pretty

From Cosmopolitan

I’m absolutely obsessed with box braids. Like, once we can go to hair salons again, that’s probably one of the first looks I’ll get done. (But, honestly, depending on how long this lasts, I might try and learn how to braid my own hair.) Box braids are versatile, easy-to-style, and most importantly, really freakin’ cute. So, in honor of the classic look, Stasha chose her three favorite box braid looks in Braid Up history for this week's video. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I definitely agree with her choices—they all look so dope.

If you know how to braid your own hair or you’re with someone who knows how to braid, here are some tips to keep in mind before you get started:

1. Deep-condition your hair. With natural hair, you need a ton of moisture to make sure your hair is properly hydrated. Give yourself a deep conditioning treatment—it’ll get your hair in perfect pre-braiding condition.

2. Your rat-tail comb is your braiding savior. It’s the best tool to help you get smooth edges and sleek parts. The super-skinny tail allows you to part sections easily, so you can get razor-sharp square parts with zero effort.

3. Keep your hair hydrated. Just because your hair is in a protective style doesn’t mean you shouldn’t condition it. Use a leave-in conditioner mist to keep your roots from drying out while it’s braided up.

4. Wear a silk or satin scarf to sleep. Frizz can instantly derail your new look, so be sure to wrap your braids in a silk or satin scarf to keep your hair smooth while you get some shut-eye.
