State Highway Accidents Kill Man, 2 Teens

A Ringling man was killed early Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Stephens County and two Texas teen-agers died when their car hit a wheat bin trailer on a Logan County road.

Dead are: Shelby King, 49, Ringling; Courtney Brandon Wallace, 16, McGregor, Texas; Jeremy J. Watson, 17, Duncanville, Texas.

Troopers said King was pronounced dead at the scene of a 5:15 a.m. accident about a mile east of Velma on State Highway 7 in Stephens County.

King was westbound when his pickup was broadsided by an eastbound car which had crossed the center line. King tried to avoid a head-on collision, the patrol said.

The other driver, Justin H. Miller, 19, of Comanche was admitted to a Duncan hospital in serious condition.

King's passenger, Verlin Ward, 23, of Lone Grove was in serious condition at the hospital. Another passenger, Stacy L. Clough, 24, of Ringling was treated and released. Seat belts were not in use in either vehicle.

The Texas teens were killed in a 5:25 p.m. crash two miles north of SH 74C on SH 74 in Logan County.

Wallace was northbound following a pickup pulling a wheat bin driven by Anthony Wayne Fruge, 19, of Crescent when Fruge slowed and pulled into the southbound lane .

Wallace also pulled into the southbound lane at a high rate of speed and hit the trailer.

Wallace was pinned for about an hour and pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries. Watson died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in an Oklahoma City hospital.

Fruge and a passenger, Garrett Lee Schubert, 14, of Crescent, were treated for minor injuries and released from a Guthrie hospital. Both drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts . BIOG: NAME:
