Premiere: Cody Dickinson Shares Song from Forthcoming Collaborative Album

North Mississippi Allstars’ Cody Dickinson, will release his latest studio record, Checkerboard Lounge, on March 8. The album is named after his home studio in Mississippi where he recorded the sessions, inviting number of guests to join him over the course of 2018. Dickinson explains, “Checkerboard Lounge is a record about love. I have always avoided writing relationship songs, but decided to take the subject head on with this record. My lovely girlfriend, Brisa Samudio is a huge influence on me and my songwriting. She comes from a musical family, and is a true guiding light in my life. A lot of these lyrics come from things we talk about, as well as the happiness and struggles that comes with falling in love.”

Today we premiere “ Bumping My Head” from the forthcoming release. The Spin Doctors’ Eric Schenkman guests on the tune and Dickinson notes that Schenkman “played incredible lead guitar on the track, in one take!” Then he adds, “’Bumping My Head’ was inspired by Karl Denson joining the Rolling Stones. I was watching his awesome band, Tiny Universe, play live when I had the concept… It doesn’t get any higher than playing with the Stones, Karl hit the ceiling. He is bumping his head! This is a song about good times and success.”

Dickinson will take to the road in support of the record starting on March 13, with a band that also features Todd Nance (Widespread Panic, Interstellar Boys), Jon Mills (Bloodkin) and Kody Harrell.
