A new four-part series, Native America, will premiere at 8 p.m. Oct. 23 on the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority. The series weaves history and science with living traditional indigenous tradition. One of the tribes examined in this series is the Comanche Nation, now based in Lawton.

The series brings to life a land of massive cities connected by social networks spanning two continents, with unique systems of science, art and writing.

Join OneVoice Luncheon

The 2018 OneVoice Luncheon is scheduled Thursday between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. Sponsored by the Oklahoma Women’s Coalition, there is no charge to attend. However, guests are highly encouraged to support financially the OWC mission of improving the lives of women and girls through education and advocacy.

Keynote speaker will be Sarah Adams-Cornell and powerful and personal testimonies will be heard.

Don’t miss magic

Oklahoma City Ballet is ready to present the first ballet of the 2018-19 season, Alice in Wonderland, Oct. 26-28, at Civic Center Music Hall. The OKC Philharmonic will provide the music for this magical ballet, choreographed by Septime Webre for the incredible dancers.

Robert Mills, artistic director, has created a season schedule with The Nutcracker, Dec. 14-23, La Sylphide, Feb. 22-24, and Visionaries (a triple bill), April 19-20.

BrightMusic concert

“Beethoven’s Vienna” will be the musical theme for BrightMusic Chamber Ensemble’s second concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral.

Guests with the ensemble will be violist Miles Hoffman and violinist Aaron Berofsky.

Tickets will be available at the door.

Taste for charity

Reach Out & Read Oklahoma will be the beneficiary this year of the annual Oklahoma City Charity Scotch Tasting on Oct. 25.

Scotch enthusiasts attending will enjoy sampling high-end libations with cigars, traditional Scottish music and fine foods.

During its 12 years, this charity tasting has raised more than $250,000 for metro-area nonprofits.
