Townsend, George Keys 86, of Bloomington, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2018. George was born on July 10, 1932 in Berwyn, Illinois to William and Mary (Jones) Townsend. He graduated from Shattuck high school in Faribault, MN in 1952. After high school, George served as a corporal in the US Army from 1952-1954 and was Honorably Discharged. In 1958 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin and continued to be a life-long supporter of the Badgers. After college, George began his career with Wisconsin Bell, before moving to the petroleum industry. George began his work in the petroleum industry with Cardinal Oil in the Montana market as a truck driver, store manager and area manager. He elevated himself through these positions in a matter of days. After two years at Cardinal Oil, he and his family moved back to Minnesota to begin work with SuperAmerica. He worked for SuperAmerica for 28 years as Vice President and General Manager. For the last 15 years of his career, he worked as Senior VP for Holiday Stationstores until he retired at the age of 75. George was a brilliant man with one of the best strategic minds in business. He was passionate about making a difference in business and in life - and when he wasn't working, he could be found reading, biking, golfing or playing tennis. George is survived by Rosemary (Voelker), his wife of 44 years; his children, Dean (Christine Walsh) Townsend, Janet Christiansen and Thomas Townsend; and his grandchildren, Joseph, Eric and Alex Christiansen. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Townsend; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Barb Townsend; and best friend Cal Lindman.
