A man is dead following a shooting in South Bend.

It happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Pulaski and Dubail streets.

Late Wednesday morning, he was identified as 18-year-old Lamar Foster. Wednesday afternoon, it was announced Foster's death was the result of a gunshot wound, following an autopsy Wednesday morning.

"Me and my neighbor were talking, looked over and we heard two gunshots and I saw him fall to the ground," said eye witness Dishona Shields.

"I ran down there and immediately put pressure to the bullet wound and did chest compression," she added.

It was an emotional scene as family members, neighbors and friends gathered around to try to find out what happened.

"Finding my little cousin laid out in the grass, it really, it really hurt me," said family member Antwan Burdette. "He was a good kid, he didn’t deserve to die the way he died. He got a little son, I think he’s two years old, so he was a father."

South Bend police tell us one person has been detained and taken to Metro Homicide for questioning.

They say this is the fourth shooting death in South Bend this year. The first three were all 17 years old.

The family of Tuesday's victim say it's time to end this violence.

"Put the guns down, there’s no need for them," said Burdette. "If you can’t work it out, solve it out, then the best thing to do is just go your own separate way because nobody needs to die."

"There’s too many people dying," he added. "There’s too many young kids dying out in the streets."
