Fires Burn Thousands Of Acres In Northern California

The largest fire was the Pawnee Fire in Lake County, which burned 8,200 acres.

LAKE COUNTY, CA -- Several fires erupted over the weekend in Northern California, forcing the evacuation of hundreds of residents. As of Monday, the largest blaze was the Pawnee Fire in Lake County, which burned 8,200 acres.

Cal Fire officials said that blaze destroyed 12 structures and threatened another 600.

Mandatory evacuation orders were in effect for the entire Spring Valley community which includes all roads accessed off of Old Long Valley Road and New Long Valley Road, north of Highway 20.

Evacuated residents were urged to go to Lower Lake High School 9430 Lake Street.

Elsewhere in the region, the Creek Fire in Shasta County burned 1,300 acres and was 30 percent contained as of Monday morning. Sheriff's officials called the blaze "suspicious in nature" and urged the public to call authorities with any information leading to the suspect.

In Tehama County, the Stoll Fire burned 300 acres and was 60 percent contained as of Monday morning. That fire also forced the evacuation of several neighborhoods, including those on Baker, Paskenta, Wilder and Stoll roads.

Officials said erratic winds and low humidity gave fuel to the blazes as hundreds of firefighters worked to contained them.
