The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne Is Engaged
Tom Payne will be just fine. After the latest shocking plot twist in The Walking Dead, the actor appeared on the after-show, Talking Dead, to discuss the unlikely development in AMC’s zombie apocalypse series, and to reveal that he’s getting married to his longtime love Jennifer Akerman.
Payne, 35, revealed how he had learned about his character’s condition from one of the writers. “I got the call like, an episode before and I was texting my girlfriend, now fiancée,” he told host Chris Hardwick, who then interrupted with a congratulatory remark.
While exact details remain unknown about how the proposal story came to life, Payne took to Instagram this weekend to celebrate his love and Thanksgiving in general.

“Thankful today for the path my life has taken up till now and all the people that have helped and supported me along the way,” Payne wrote. “Especially the special lady peeking out from behind me in the photo! America has given me a lot. I’m doing my best to return the love. Happy Thanksgiving everybody!”
The two have been dating since 2013. Payne has starred on the show, now in its upcoming ninth season, since season 6.
“She was the first person who wasn’t afraid to challenge me and call me on my s—t,” he told Women’s Health in early 2018. “A few weeks in, we had an argument on the street, and I said to her, ‘I don’t do this!’ I was in a relationship for 10 years before this one, and we never argued, mainly because I always had the power. But with this relationship, it’s a fifty-fifty split. We’re totally invested.”
