YORBA LINDA – A woman in her early 60s was found dead Monday morning by her husband in their backyard pool, officials said.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department and Orange County Fire Authority officials responded around 6 a.m. to a home in the 5400 block of Via Ramon Road.

A man had walked into his backyard and found his wife unconscious in their backyard pool, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

“He pulled her out and started CPR on her, but when firefighter paramedics arrived, there was unfortunately nothing more they could do and pronounced her dead at the scene,” Concialdi said.

The woman, whose name was not initially released, was in her early 60s and knew how to swim.

“It was common for her to be around the pool by herself,” Concialdi said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the drowning.

This death marks the 38th drowning fatality in Orange County this year.
