Blonde Anna Friel has more fun as she takes to the stage in  Breakfast At Tiffany's

It was the role that helped make Audrey Hepburn a screen icon, but Anna Friel is clearly determined to make the part of Holly Golightly her own.

The former Brookside star dons a a blonde wig and 1940s costumes for her role in the West End production of Breakfast At Tiffany's.

In pictures taken from the show she looks fantastic with blonde tresses, a black silk dress and sassy elbow-length gloves.

The current stage production is based on the novella by Truman Capote and not the 1960s film, which starred Hepburn.

And, before the show opened, Anna was keen to distance herself from recreating the brunette's role.

She said: 'One of the scary things at first for me was thinking “Gosh! People will assume they’re coming to see an Audrey Hepburn impression" and that won’t be happening.

‘The film was set in 1960, so straight away we’re going to look different in terms of clothes and hairstyle.’

Anna appears on stage alongside Gimme Gimme Gimme star James Dreyfuss, who plays OJ Berman, Joseph Cross (William 'Fred' Parsons),  John Ramm (Doc Golightly) and James Bradshaw (Rusty Trawler).

It seems the part has given her a newfound love for all things Forties away from the stage too.

The 33-year-old has been pictured leaving the Theatre Royal in a variety of 40s-inspired outfits and hairdos during rehersals.

This week it was a lovely red hat and coat teamed with a dark green sparkly dress, while last week she vamped it up in an animal print jacket coupled with a black dress, her hair curled up like a 40s movie star.

In previous weeks Anna has also been pictured wearing an unusual fur waistcoat with a sheer dress and, before that, a dainty, vintage red dress.

Again sporting the 40s hairstyle that ties in so well with the theme of Sean Mathias' stage production.

Wonder what more she has in store?
