A child who was shot and injured in Pomona may have been the unintended victim of a drive-by shooting on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 21.

Dispatchers received several reports of gunfire coming from a vehicle near the 1100 block of Cornelia Street at about 2:50 p.m.,  the Pomona Police Department said in a news release. Police also were told of a 10-year-old boy arriving at a nearby hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Police in their release said the boy was in stable condition and was believed to be an accidental victim of the shooting.

The boy is expected to survive his injuries, said Pomona Police Lt. Marcus Perez.

A description of potential suspects and information on a vehicle possibly involved in the incident were not immediately available.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been gang related.
