2 Drivers Hurt In Wrong-Way Crash On SR-94 In San Diego

One of the drivers was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the wrong-way crash.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Two motorists suffered moderate injuries and one of the drivers was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a wrong-way crash early Monday morning on state Route 94 in the Emerald Hills area, authorities said.

The collision occurred shortly after 3:20 a.m. on eastbound SR-94 near Federal Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro said.

Witnesses reported a Nissan Altima sedan was heading west in the eastbound lanes of SR-94 east of Federal Boulevard and slammed head-on into a Volkswagen Beetle, he said.

Both drivers were taken to hospitals for treatment, the officer said, and the Nissan driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Authorities shut down the left two lanes on eastbound SR-94 near Federal Boulevard for the crash investigation. All lanes were reopened by 6 a.m.
