Matthew McConaughey is really excited about Texas' new football signees

Alright, alright, alright. It looks like Charlie Strong’s newest crop of Longhorns are Wooderson approved.

Texas was the big mover and shaker on National Signing Day, landing nine four-star commitments in the span of 48 hours to vault all the way into the Top 1o of the composite team recruiting rankings. The Longhorns got a commitment from almost every single previously undecided player they had spent time recruiting and added so many significant pieces on the defensive side of the ball that many Texas fans are already salivating over a young but supremely talented potential starting defensive lineup in 2016.

One of those fans is Academy Award winner actor Matthew McConaughey, one of Texas’ most vocal and present fans. He typically holds back from making broad Longhorn-based proclamations on social media, but Wednesday afternoon he was too caught up in the excitement to hold back. Here’s what he said:

McConaughey was clearly speaking for Texas fans everywhere, in his own, very special, Dazed and Confused-tinged way. The remaining questions are far more epistemological than analytic: What does it say about our society that McConaughey has emerged as the most prestigious spokesperson for one of America’s premier state universities (Barbara Jordan and Walter Cronkite RIP)? Even more, what does is say that the aforementioned spokesperson is desperate to weigh in on high school football players?
